Purpose
One major challenge when considering investments in workforce development is the perceived softness of the investment and difficulty demonstrating value. I recall one CFO asking for precisely such quantification to justify investing. This reticence is not surprising given that organizations invest over $50 billion in training and development each year in the U.S. and yet one of the primary reasons people cite for leaving organizations is lack of development. This workshop provides tools that quantify the decision making process for investing in people. For example, should I commit all of my resources to a high potential group or should I distribute them more broadly?

Approach
This two-hour, intensive workshop provides a framework and processes for defining the impact of investments in people on creation of organizational value. Components of the workshop include:
-Building a value chain framework
-Levels of evaluation to guide investment
-Modeling and simulation to explore future options
-Exploring the optimum level of development resources
-A case study

To strengthen and deepen the learning process, participants can work with Elsdon Organizational Renewal on an individual basis to apply the quantitative principles to specific organizational or project situations.

Outcomes
As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to apply quantitative approaches to workforce investment decisions, leading to improved resource utilization, greater productivity, and a more committed and effective workforce.
