Purpose

While we spend much of our communicating time listening, estimates show that 70-90% of communications are filtered or changed by the listener.  It is not surprising that successful organizations recognize the importance of effective listing.  This workshop equips participants with effective listening skills.

Approach

This half-day or full-day workshop, which is built on a foundation listening assessment instrument, strengthens listening skills in receiving, attending to, interpreting and responding to verbal messages and other cues such as body language.  It enables participants to understand their natural listening preferences as a combination of five styles, and how to relate their listening approach to the situational context in which listening is occurring.  It contains the following elements:

bulletOverview of listening
bulletCommunication barriers
bulletIdentifying your listening approach
bulletUnderstanding different listening approaches
bulletUsing different listening approaches
bulletToward more effective listening
bulletPracticing effective listening

Outcomes

As a result of this workshop participants will be able to:

bulletListen more effectively, avoiding miscommunication
bulletDescribe their own listening preferences
bulletUnderstand the preferred listening approach in given situations
bulletUnderstand the preferred listening styles of others and how to communicate more effectively with them

These gains in listening capability translate directly to enhanced organizational effectiveness.
